Research process

How Cordibly turns a claim into guidance

Every guide starts with the setup problem, then checks the claim against stronger evidence before turning it into plain buying guidance. Retail listings can start the trail, but they don’t get the final vote.

  1. Scope

    Define the real setup problem

    We identify the reader’s actual goal first: device, monitor target, charging need, operating system, and the failure risk the page needs to prevent.

  2. Evidence

    Check the claim against stronger sources

    Official standards, platform rules, manufacturer specs, and vendor support pages carry more weight than store listings or marketing bullets.

    • Highest weight: standards, platform documentation, manufacturer specs, and official support pages.
    • Reality check: credible hands-on reviewers help sanity-check heat, stability, charging, and recurring issues.
    • Lowest weight: retail titles, product bullets, and marketing claims don’t settle compatibility questions alone.

  3. Guidance

    Stress-test the guidance against USB-C failure points

    Before a claim becomes buying guidance, we check the limits that commonly make a dock or hub look right on paper but fail in a real setup.

    • Port capability: some USB-C ports charge or move data without carrying video.
    • Cable and adapter path: a cable or adapter can limit video, charging, bandwidth, resolution, or refresh rate even when the port supports more.
    • Mac versus Windows behavior: MST can extend displays on many Windows setups, while many Mac setups need another route.
    • Display load: dual 4K, high-refresh, and ultrawide setups depend on host, dock, bandwidth, resolution, and refresh rate.
    • Power under load: charging wattage can drop once monitors, drives, and accessories are connected.
    • Driver dependency: DisplayLink can solve some monitor-count problems, but it adds software, permissions, and update risk.

Then we compare tradeoffs, remove unsupported claims, and revisit pages when specs, prices, stock, support pages, or compatibility guidance changes.
